So I'm trying Dymatize Energized Xpand again. I've used it before and really enjoyed it but for the last (almost) year I've been using Gaspari Super Pump 250. I thought why not do a little personal comparison of the two. My comparison will be of Orange flavor in both products, and for servings I take two scoops pre-workout.

Mixability

Xpand 8/10

SP250 8/10

Both products get a high mark for mixability, both of them are easily dissolve with simply a small amount of water and a shaker cup. If you put the powder in first you barely have to shake it so that gets high mixability marks from me.

Taste

Xpand 7/10

SP250 8/10

SuperPump gets a little edge here because I don't feel that it has the strong powdery after taste that my Xpand does. When mixed with cold water both products do have a distinctly orange flavor but SP250 has more of a "carbonated" taste where as Xpand has a powdery flavor.

Stimulation

Xpand 9/10

SP250 7/10

As for pre-workout stimulation I have to give huge respect to Xpand, it is one of the most powerful creatine/arginine/glutamine combos I have ever tried, within 5 minutes I was alert and super-stimulated, in fact I was doing a crossword while waiting to pick my GF up at school and I was absolutely blowing through it. SP250 does not seem to have the instant effect on me that Xpand did. However by the time I got to the gym and changed (roughly 20 minutes) I was charged for the workout, my blood was pumping and I was actually (in subjective terms) feeling stronger.

During Workout

Xpand 6/10

SP250 9/10

Now they reversed. We're talking about strength and energy during the workout here. I really feel that once Xpand's energy rush was gone (about 15 mins into my workout) I really didn't feel like I had extra strength or energy. In fact yesterday I had to cut squats short by one set (heaviest) just because I didn't have anything left. My whole day and workout was the same as last leg day, but last time I was using SP250. In reality, with SP250 I feel insanely stronger throughout my workout, my blood is flowing and I have tons of energy. All my personal best have been set while taking SP250.

Post Workout

Xpand 6/10

SP250 9/10

I have a tough time rating Xpand because for me it basically ran out early in my workout, I continued through and basically I didn't get much of a post workout feel for the product (keep in mind Dymatize suggests that you take a serving before and a serving after your workout, I took them before) However I can give it marks for recovery because I do feel better, sooner, than if I take nothing at all. For SP250 post-workout I am always wiped, a result of it powering me throughout the entire workout. This is the feeling that I absolutely want after my workout. As for recovery SP250 (like Xpand) helps me to recover better (and faster) then when I do the same workout with no product.

Overall

Xpand 7.2/10

I feel that Xpand is a great pre-workout stim but it does not have the staying power or the overall effect of Super Pump 250. However, here in Canada, it is usually priced somewhat cheaper than SP250. I believe that if you are strapped for cash, or if you like to cycle pre-workout drinks than this product is better than most options out there.

Super Pump 250 8.2/10

Super Pump gets my nod in this case. It's overall mark relates to it's overall effect. Although not as strong upfront as Xpand it will blow by Xpand in overall effectiveness. Personally I like to cycle my pre-workout drinks, but I will only experiment with the drink the cycles between my Super Pump 250, (I always go back to SP250 after 1 tub of something else). If you are looking for a pre-workout drink that will *ACTUALLY* assist your workout then I strongly suggest Super Pump 250.

I am open to compare others products to SP250 if anyone has some ideas or if a rep wants to put their product up against it let me know.

I am not affiliated in any way with any supplement company, I am just a customer and bodybuilder.

Thanks

Big Poppa S

    • Oh, for anyone who is wondering (forgot to put it in the first post). I am not the most responsive person to stims, I do not suggest that anyone go directly into the dosing that I experimented with, I have been doing this for a long time and have been able to gauge my tolerance level. I did not experience any side effects whatsoever, that includes stomach pains, gas, etc, because I know where this tolerance level is.

For the beginner I would suggest taking half a scoop of Xpand, both pre and post. Then, as you adapt, work your way up from there. As for SuperPump 250 I would suggest to start at 1 scoop pre-workout and then adjust as you adapt.

      Hope this helps.

great! Is the super pump fizzy (like or similar to No Explode)? And, I don't react well to stimulants either, so is this a steady and mild stim or is it like drinking a coffee that can take the hair off of a cat?

      cheers
